The Town of Matera and The Cultural Association Genius Loci announce their call for entries for 3rd Edition of the International Competition for Ceramic Whistles - 2012 Città di Matera

Rules

1- All participants are entitled to present from three to  maximum six whistles created with ceramic materials. Participating is free of charge.

2- Works must not exceed the following measures  20 x 20 x 25h cm. Entries  measuring longer or wider will not be accepted. No specific theme is provided. 

All participants can present whistles made of terracotta, ceramic, gres or porcelain or made by the combination of this material. Entries created by non ceramic procedures or with different materials (wood, glass, etc), will not be admitted. Each work has to be signed with the name of the artist.

3- Entries must be sent to Ass. Culturale Genius Loci, c/o Casa Grotta del Casalnuovo, Rione Casalnuovo 308, 75100 Matera – Italy within September 10th, 2012. All entries must include a properly completed application form that can be sent with the works or by fax to the 0039  0835 314139 o mailed to  geniuslocimatera@libero.it

4- Entries must be sent with prepaid shipping expenses. Entries must be packed carefully to avoid damage. The sponsor cannot assume responsibility for any damage sustained to the entries before they have been received. The works must arrive by June 17th of May 2012.

5- All the whistles will be exhibited from to the 16th  to the 30th of September2012 in the Exibition Space of Santa Maria De Armenis  – Matera 

6- During the exhibition it is not possible for the artists to sell the works present in the competition. The artists can indicate the value of their works in the application form, in order to satisfy any purchase request only at the end of the exhibition. In this case a commission of  20% is charged. The commission  must be included in the price indicated in the application form. 

7- The members of the commission will be chosen by the Ass. Genius Loci and will be composed of experts in the art field. The name of the Members will be made public only when their final verdict has been announced.

 8- Prizes are listed below and will be subject to tax deductions required by law.

1st Prize € 750,00  + honorable mention

2nd prize € 500,00 + honorable mention

3rd prize  € 250,00 + honorable mention

PUBLIC’S PRIZE, € 250 for the entry chosen by the public which has not won another prize.

All the Competitors will receive a Certificate of participation.

Three more sections are:

The Best  whistle made according to the Italian tradition

The Best whistle made by foreigner artists.

The Best Innovative whistle.

The Best Water clay whistle.

9- The decisions of the jury are final and require no justification. The communication to the winner will be sent by post mail to the their address or by e-mail.

10- PUBLIC’S PRIZE: euro 250,00. This prize is awarded to an entry which has not already won another prize and is been most voted by the public during the exhibition.

11- Participating in this contest, the authors allow the organizers to reproduce the image of the winning and selected works in any kind of medium. These images will be only exhibited for the promotion of similar contests or for other social and cultural activities organized by the Cultural Association Genius Loci or sponsored by the Town Council of Matera

12- Winning entries, and the group belonging to the same author, will remain property of the Association “Genius Loci Matera” and will be exhibited in the Civic Museum of Ceramic Whistles of Matera.

13- Donation: Participants can donate their works to the Civic Museum Of Ceramic Whistles of Matera or they can sell their work after the competition (see art. n. 6). The authors will indicate their decision in selling or donating their works in the Application Form .  Return of entries: the return’s costs will be paid by the partecipants. All the works will be returned in three months after the exhibition.

14- The  Organising Committee will take the greatest care in handling all work.  The author will take responsibility for the correct packaging and transport of his or their works. The same packaging will be used by the Commission to return entries by courier if so requested. All transport costs prior to and following the exhibition are payable by the participant .

15- Participation in this competition implies acceptance of its rules and conditions.

BIENNALE INTERNAZIONALE DEL FISCHIETTO IN TERRACOTTA
EDIZIONE 2010

CONCLUSIONI E PREMIO DELLA GIURIA POPOLARE A TOMMASO NIGLIO.

Si è conclusa ieri con grande successo la II Edizione della Biennale Internazionale del Fischietto in terracotta “Città di Matera” – che ha visto ancora una volta protagonista assoluta l’arte della ceramica sonora.
Numerosi sono stati i visitatori durante i 15 giorni della mostra concorso: materani, turisti e scolaresche hanno visitato la Biennale con i suoi 252 fischietti, hanno potuto ammirare la bellezza del luogo che ha ospitato la mostra - la Chiesa Rupestre di Santa Maria de Armenis (una grande scoperta per tanti materani che non l’avevano mai vista prima! )




Tra il numeroso pubblico che nelle ultime giornate ha visitato la mostra vi è stata l’artista Marianne Ban – ungherese - che ha colto l’occasione della Biennale per visitare sia la mostra che la nostra città. La sua meraviglia è stata tale che ha deciso di donare diverse sue opere per il futuro museo Internazionale del Fischietto in terracotta da farsi a Matera a cura dell’Ass. Culturale Genius loci. Le opere donate in questa seconda edizione del concorso sono 144 che insieme alla collezione privata dell’Associazione Genius Loci ed ai fischietti donati nella prima edizione della Biennale tenutasi nel 2008, creano una nutrita raccolta di circa 500 fischietti italiani e stranieri.

Come da consuetudine l’Ass. Genius Loci ha proposto laboratori creativi gratuiti a bambini ed adulti, frequentati in questa edizione da scolaresche di bambini della Scuola Primaria e Scuola Media e famiglie.
Le scolaresche con i loro insegnanti, ma anche le famiglie ed i cittadini materani, che si sono succeduti incessantemente durante i giorni della mostra hanno decretato con il loro voto il vincitore assoluto per il premio della Giuria Popolare che si è rivelato essere Tommaso Niglio con l’opera di dal titolo “Cucù con pesci” con 196 preferenze. Lo spoglio ha interessato 1245 schede che restano a disposizione di chiunque volesse prenderne visione presso la sede dell’Associazione, per 3 mesi. Il premio della Giuria Popolare consiste in un assegno di euro 250,00.

L’iniziativa, ancora una volta, ha contribuito a far conoscere la ceramica sonora nelle sue svariate forme, colori e provenienze agli oltre 2800 visitatori ed è stata un'altra occasione per allargare la rete di contatti tra collezionisti, artisti, artigiani e neofiti “del fischietto in terracotta”.
L’inizitiva, per voce del presidente dell’Associazione Culturale Genius Loci, è stata resa possibile grazie al contributo della Regione Basilicata -Dipartimento Agricoltura, Banca Popolare del Mezzogiorno, Camera di Commercio di Matera, Altrimedia Edizioni. Ulteriori ringraziamenti vanno al Comune di Matera, Al Consorzio Vini Matera DOC, allo Slow Food di Matera, alle aziende Tenuta Zagarella e Montemurro e al Dott. Armando Scuto presidente dell’Associazione Anemos.

REGOLAMENTO

PARTECIPAZIONE AL CONCORSO
Art. 1 - La partecipazione al Concorso Internazionale del fischietto in terracotta di Matera è aperta a tutti coloro che presenteranno le proprie opere inedite realizzate in terracotta e ceramica e con caratteristiche tipiche della ceramica sonora.
Ogni partecipante può presentare da un minimo di tre ad un massimo di 6 opere.

CARATTERISTICA DELLE OPERE
Art. 2 –Le opere non dovranno superare le seguenti misure: 20 x 20 x 25h cm. L’associazione si impegna ad esporre tutte le opere.
Il soggetto è a tema libero.
Ogni manufatto dovrà essere costituito esclusivamente da terracotta, terraglia, ceramica, grès o porcellana o anche dalla combinazione di questi materiali, ma non deve prevedere l’aggiunta di altro materiale dominante (ferro, legno, vetro, stoffa etc). I manufatti non dovranno comportare per l’esposizione assemblaggio e montaggio degli stessi.
Ogni opera presentata dovrà portare incisi o scritti sotto la base nome e cognome dell’Autore.

SCHEDA DI ADESIONE
Art. 3 - I concorrenti, pena la non ammissione al concorso, dovranno far pervenire la scheda di adesione, compilata in ogni sua parte, entro le ore 12.00 del 7 maggio 2010, spedendola via fax al n. 0835/314139 o inviandola via e-mail a geniuslocimatera@libero.it , o via posta a: Ass. Genius Loci , Rione Casalnuovo, 308 - 75100 Matera. In quest’ultimo caso farà fede il timbro postale.
Copia della scheda potrà anche essere inviata insieme ai manufatti partecipanti al Concorso entro il termine previsto dal successivo articolo.

SPEDIZIONE DELLE OPERE
Art. 4 - Le opere partecipanti dovranno essere consegnate, o inviate porto franco, presso la sede legale dell’Ass. Culturale Genius Loci, in Rione Casalnuovo, 308 - 75100 Matera, entro le ore 12.00 del giorno 7 Maggio 2010.

Esposizione delle opere:
Art. 5 - Le opere rimarranno esposte dall’15 Maggio 2010 al 30 Maggio 2008, nella Sala Espositiva della Chiesa di Santa Maria de Armenis – Sasso Caveoso, Matera.

Art. 6 – Durante tutto il periodo della Mostra non è consentita agli autori la vendita dei fischietti ivi esposti.
Gli Autori potranno inviare l’indicazione del prezzo richiesto per ciascuna opera, per eventuali richieste di acquisto da perfezionare a fine della Mostra.

Commissione
Art. 7 – Una qualificata Commissione, nominata dall’Associazione Culturale Genius Loci, composta da esperti di arte e tradizioni popolari più un rappresentante dell’Amm.ne Comunale, provvederà ad esaminare e valutare le opere partecipanti. I nomi dei componenti tale commissione saranno resi noti il giorno di apertura del concorso.

PREMI
Art. 8 - La Commissione, dopo aver visionato e valutato le opere, provvederà ad assegnare, con apposita motivazione verbalizzata, che terrà conto degli aspetti tecnici specifici e stilistici/artistici, i seguenti premi:

Al 1° classificato € 750,00 + attestato di merito
Al 2° classificato € 500,00 + attestato di merito
Al 3° classificato € 250,00 + attestato di merito

E’ istituita inoltre una specifica sezione per l’individuazione e la segnalazione di autori ed opere che si riferiscono a:

- Modellazione del miglior fischietto secondo tradizione.
- Modellazione del miglior fischietto innovativo.
- Modellazione del miglior fischietto straniero.
- Modellazione del miglior fischietto ad acqua.

Attestati di partecipazione saranno consegnati a tutti gli autori.

Art. 9 –Le decisioni della Commissione di esperti prevista dagli articoli precedenti sono insindacabili ed inappellabili.
La comunicazione ufficiale ai vincitori del concorso sarà resa nota attraverso posta (r/r) o via e-mail.

Giuria popolare
Art. 10 – E’ istituito inoltre un premio di 250,00 euro, che sarà assegnato attraverso le votazioni espresse da una giuria popolare, composta dai visitatori dell’esposizione, che con apposita scheda potranno esprimere le proprie scelte. Dal voto popolare verranno naturalmente esclusi i 3 (tre) manufatti vincitori del Concorso già scelti dalla Giuria degli esperti.
Lo spoglio delle schede di giudizio, debitamente sottoscritte e raccolte nel periodo che intercorre tra il 15 ed il 30 Maggio 2010, in apposita urna sigillata, avverrà nei giorni successivi alla chiusura della mostra, alla presenza di una apposita commissione nominata dalla Ass. Culturale Genius Loci.

Art. 11 - L’adesione dei partecipanti al Concorso autorizza gli organizzatori a riprodurre per la stampa di cataloghi e manifesti, senza corresponsione di diritti d’autore, le opere partecipanti. Per il manifesto del concorso successivo sarà impiegata l’immagine dell’opera del 1 classificato.

Art. 12 - Le opere premiate, in tutte le sezioni di premi, unitamente al gruppo presentato da ogni singolo artista, rimarranno di proprietà dell’Associazione che si impegna nella conservazione delle stesse in una raccolta civica.

Art. 13 – E’ facoltà degli Autori delle opere non premiate donare le medesime all’Associazione Genius Loci che si impegna a destinarle come al precedente punto 12. In caso contrario le opere rientreranno in possesso degli autori entro tre mesi dalla conclusione della manifestazione con spedizione in contrassegno.

Art. 14 - Gli organizzatori, pur garantendo la massima cura ed attenzione nella conservazione e custodia delle opere, non si assumono alcuna responsabilità per eventuali danni o furti, sia durante il trasporto che per i periodi di esposizione.

Art. 15 - La partecipazione al Concorso Internazionale della Ceramica Sonora implica l’accettazione di tutte le norme contenute nel presente regolamento. Non è richiesta alcuna quota di partecipazione.

Art. 16 TUTELA DEI DATI PERSONALI
Ai sensi dell'art 13 del D.Lgs. 196/03, si informa che i dati forniti all'atto dell'iscrizione saranno conservati dall’Associazione Genius Loci ed utilizzati esclusivamente al fine di inviare informazioni riguardanti l'Associazione o eventi che abbiano attinenza con il concorso, e che il titolare ha diritto di conoscere, aggiornare, cancellare e rettificare i suoi dati od opporsi al loro utilizzo.

1° Premio DURLO LINO - di Este (Padova). Motivazione: eccezionale fischietto bitonale, con suono cristallino e grande sintesi tra tradizione e linea.

2° Premio ex aequo: POLONIATO DIEGO di Nove (Vicenza) Motivazione: grande innovazione nell’ arcicucco veneto, con grande impatto a livello di tradizione) & BRUNETTI MARCO Matera (Motivazione: grande continuità della tradizione, lettura del territorio ed eeccezionale qualità cromatica)

3° Premio ex aequo: REBECCA MAY VERRILL (Taos, New Mexico/Usa) Motivazione: eccezionale tecnica di realizzazione: fischietto in Raku) & LUCIO FARCI di Assemini (Cagliari) Motivazione: grande raffinatezza ed eleganza)

Sarà anche possibile prenotare l’acquisto degli elaborati, da perfezionare dopo la chiusura della mostra.

In questi giorni sarà possibile partecipare al laboratorio artistico di Valeri Kurtmulaev.

The 1st International Competition for Ceramic Whistles will be held in Matera, Italy, from May 11th May 25th 2008, except postponement.

The Competition is open to individual and schools with no age limit. Each competitor may submit a maximum of six works (whistles) which may be created using any ceramic technique. Works must not exceed 20x20x25 of their dimensions.

12. Winning entries, and the group belonging to the same author, will remain property of the Association “Genius Loci Matera” and will be exhibited in the Civic Museum of Ceramic Whistles of Matera.

13. Donation: Participants can donate their works to the Civic Museum Of Ceramic Whistles of Matera or they can sell their work after the competition (see art. n. 6). The authors will indicate their decision in selling or donating their works in the Application Form .

14. Return of entries: the return’s costs will be paid by the Organising Committee. All the works will be returned in two months after the exhibition.

15. Participation in this competition implies acceptance of its rules and conditions. Notwithstanding, the Organizing Committee reserves the specific and exclusive right to rule on matters no specified in these rules and conditions and on any doubts arising from their interpretation.
